Every custom mouse from The Fauna Felterie is a collaboration of love, memories, and meticulous craft. Because these pieces are entirely bespoke, the journey from a simple idea to a finished sculpture is a thoughtful, shared process. Your Bespoke Mouse Journey

How it works . . . .

I - Sharing the Story

Our journey begins with your thoughts and memories. Once you secure a commission slot, you will be emailed some information to help you share the details of the special person we are celebrating. This will include:

The Details: Questions to help you to tell me all about them, their favorite hobbies, their quirks, favourite thing or the job they love.

The Imagery: You can send photos of them doing what they love, their favorite book, the tools of their trade, or their own artwork, whatever it is that makes them unique.

2 - Gathering the Threads

To make your mouse truly sentimental, we can weave a piece of their actual history into the sculpture.

Precious Fabrics: As well as photos you are welcome to send a piece of fabric from a cherished garment, such as an old sweater, a favorite shirt, or a pre-loved item. This is particularly special when celebrating someone who has passed away.

The Wardrobe: I will carefully repurpose this material to hand-tailor your mouse’s tiny outfit, creating a connection to the person it represents.

With your stories, photos, and fabrics safely in my studio, the making begins.

Needle Felting: Using fine wool fibres and a specialized barbed needle, I sculpt the mouse's shape entirely by hand, fibre by fibre.

Handmade Props: I then hand craft the tiny accessories—whether it's shrinking down a record sleeve, crafting a miniature artist's palette, or shaping a tiny pair of spectacles.

4 - A Little Time Waiting

Time & Care: Because of the hyper-detailed nature of this work, each sculpture stands between 12 and 14 cm tall and takes several days to perfectly finish. Quite often I can be creating a specific prop for the first time and so a little more time is needed to get it right.

5 -The Final Reveal

Before your mouse leaves the nest, I will send you clear images of the finished piece. This gives us a moment to ensure every tiny detail feels just right. If your mouse is being sent directly to the person it is for, then it also gives you a chance to see it all before it arrives.

Once approved, your custom mouse is beautifully and securely packaged for its journey to you or to your special someone. Whether it is destined for a fireplace mantel, a bedside table, or the edge of a desk, it arrives safe and ready to bring a lifetime of needle-felted joy.

6 - Journeying Home

Each little character travels to its new home nestled safely inside its own little cotton bag, accompanied by a gentle care guide to ensure your wool sculpture stays beautiful for years to come. If you would like to add an extra layer of magic to your gift, we can create a custom keepsake postcard featuring a photograph of your finished mouse or special someone. On the reverse side, we can include a Personal Note, such as a handwritten message or letter written by you. Or a Whimsical Story, a tiny, personalized tale imagining the adventures of your new mouse friend.
